Owned by the Port of Delcambre as a signature brand of the Delcambre Direct Seafood program, VBS products include shrimp of various sizes and black drum, with catfish and crab packages soon to follow.

What makes our seafood such a great catch?

  • Local shrimpers have long touted the sweeter taste of white shrimp in the Vermilion Bay area. The brackish waters of the Bay, bayous and marsh create the perfect environment for our favorite seafood to thrive—not only shrimp, but finfish and crab.

  • Our seafood tastes fresh because it is frozen and packaged right off the dock, using strict quality standards that include a vacuum pack process and no STP (sodium triphosphate). We operate under the guidance of Louisiana Sea Grant, and our fishermen and processors use their best practice procedures.

  • As a truly local brand, our mission is not solely for profit, but to develop high quality, delicious seafood products that support local fishermen and their way of life. Our long-term goal is to get a small portion of the profits of VBS back to the fishermen.

  • The Vermilion Bay Sweet story began with partnerships between business, industry, fishermen and Louisiana State University to keep local commercial fishing alive—particularly in the off-season. Originally a demonstration project with premium, hand-peeled jumbo shrimp, the brand was created to show the demand for a gourmet shrimp product that adhered to the highest quality standards in processing.

    Vermilion Bay Sweet is a project of the Delcambre Direct Seafood program, intended to fill the off-season gap with a fresh-frozen product. Created by the Twin Parish Port Commission, in partnership with LSU Ag Center and Louisiana Sea Grant, Delcambre Direct Seafood is part of the statewide Louisiana Direct Seafood initiative. It provides an online marketplace for consumers to connect directly with local fishermen to purchase fresh, wild-caught seafood.
