2019 season opens with Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies

Every Spring and Fall, Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies happen throughout Louisiana’s coastal communities. Occurring  for centuries around the world, the ceremonies traditionally feature religious blessings and festivities to help ensure a bountiful and safe fishing season. Open to the public, South Louisiana’s Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies are also a wonderful way to get to know our local fishing communities, and to enjoy the fun range of pageants, food and contests that our area does so well. The following Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies are coming soon; check local listings for details, and for others happening throughout the year:

March 31: Dulac
Holy Family Catholic Church Fisherman’s Mass 10 a.m., Boat Blessing follows at noon.

April 7: Chauvin Boat Blessing and Folk Art Festival
