Eat Local Challenge Bucktown Boil
June 28 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
This Friday, take the Eat Local Challenge and enjoy fresh Louisiana seafood at Bucktown Farmers Market at Bucktown Harbor, 325 Metairie Hammond Hwy in Metairie (on the lake side of the levee), from 3 to 7 p.m. Also called the Bucktown Boil, this event has lots for everyone to enjoy:
Fresh local seafood sales: Fisherman Lance Nacio of Anna Marie Seafood and Brad Bertoniere of A&B Seafood are selling a variety of seafood – fresh, frozen and boiled. Depending on what’s freshly caught, we expect to serve up shrimp, fin fish, crabs, and a variety of frozen fish.
Chef skills: Chef Honn, executive chef of New Orleans’ tropical bar and café Carmo, will be cooking three seafood dishes, one featuring soft-shelled crab, and offering bite-sized samples each. Local fisherman Lance Nacio will present helpful fish-cutting techniques.
Learning opportunities: Look for Louisiana Sea Grant’s 10’x10′ tent, where Julie Lively, Ph.D., will make a presentation on soft-shelled crab, complete with handouts and a demo tank. Learn about the process of shedding Louisiana crabs from captured hard crabs. Area fishery extension agent Rusty Gaudé will also be at the tent, presenting a variety of information on issues affecting fishers and consumers in the New Orleans area. And, another demo will be presented by the Bucktown Boil.
Fun for the Family: Live music, kids’ activities, prepared foods and more.
