Meet the Fisherman: Pete Gerica

Pete Gerica has seen it all. As a hard-working, third-generation fisherman making a living off the waters of coastal Louisiana, Pete has weathered storms, oil spills, overfishing, foreign imports, governmental regulations, and a pandemic. But he is a survivor, and he is passionate about the work he has chosen. To him, it’s a labor of love.

The son of a Croatian oysterman, Pete grew up in a fishing family, and his roots in the industry run deep where he has made a living off shrimp, finfish, and crabs. His catch is sold regularly at his stall at the Crescent City Farmers Market in New Orleans, and he is listed as a vendor on Louisiana Direct Seafood.

Pete not only works on the water, but he works hard for the industry. Actively involved over the years in organizations like the Lake Pontchartrain Fishermen’s Association and the state’s Crab Task Force, Pete lobbies for regulations that help protect Louisiana’s seafood industry and the livelihood of its many fishing families.

Be sure to connect with Pete Gerica and many more coastal Louisiana fishermen by accessing the contact information on the Louisiana Direct Seafood website. It’s a free service, and it’s nice to know that you are helping to support the many fishing families that are the foundation of our Louisiana seafood industry.
